Welcome to Cascade....

Our school resource officer, Debbie Johnson was promoted to Sergeant in the Longview Police Department in December. Her son pins her Sergeant's badge on her during the ceremony. With her promotion she now has new responsibilities with the police department so we will miss her. Sgt. Johnson has been our school resource officer for the past couple of years. Her connection with Cascade goes all the way back to the days she was a student at Cascade. Sgt. Johnson replacement is Officer Dawn Taylor. |

Sixth grader Ashley Griffin spends part of her lunch time with Cascade teacher Digna Artiles and other students who knit and crochet for the homeless. Here Ashley displays her first crocheted project. This baby blanket, which she completed in a week, will go a homeless family. Ashley gives a lot of credit to her grandmother who taught her how to crochet and “everything I know.”. Now Ashley is constantly crocheting Christmas presents and says she will use these skills for the rest of her life. Way to go Ashley..and Digna and Grandma! |

Coats, coats and more coats...
The Coat Drive ended on October 30th. Our goal was 500 coats. At the time of press we had 515. During the Coat Drive we raffled off free ICEE cards from Burger King to the students that brought coats in. The winning class gets a donut party! At the time of print Miss VanSon’s class was in the lead with 130 coats. Mr. Edmondson's class was second with 93 coats. The coats that were brought in will be donated to the Salvation Army for distribution to people who are need of coats this winter. By Gabrielle Heim |

A =4.0; A- =3.7 |
In order for students to be "automatically promoted" to the next grade, they need to have 19 total credits. The vast majority of students earn all 24 credits (6 per quarter), however, each year there are some who fall behind. As we look at individual students, we realize that there are some circumstances that explain a student's poor performance. For this reason, we identify specific requirements that may look a little different for some students. Some students may be required to pass all subjects during this last quarter in addition to completing "exit tasks" over the summer. An exit task is a task that when completed demonstrates that the student is able to perform the skill to a grade level standard even if he/she did not earn the credit in the class. Teachers assess these completed tasks in the summer, and we revisit a student's placement in August. The best advice is to do the work satisfactorily all year to prevent doing more in the course of the summer.

Please inform the school if your child is absent by calling 577-2702. You can reach us during office hours -- 7:30 to 4:00. Outside of office hours we have voice mail, so please leave a message. We retrieve our messages first thing in the morning. In addition to reporting absences, also call to report if your child will be late for school or needs to be dismissed early for an appointment or some other reason. The best way to request that your child be dismissed early is to send a note that day and ask your child to check in at the office when they arrive. We can then give them a pass to get out of class at the designated time. In addition to calling when your child is absent, sending a note with them when they return helps to ensure that our attendance records are complete and accurate. Thanks for your cooperation! (Please note that the number in the phone book (577-2706) is not correct.) |
