ACTIVITIES/INFORMATION (SCHOOL RELATED)

The second annual Mark Morris vs. RA Long Civil War Food Drive is coming February 1-13.  Last year, Mark Morris was edged out by RA Long by 2,000 pounds of food and $1,200. This year we want to win! We need your help to achieve our goal of collecting 20,000 pounds of food and $5,000 for Lower Columbia CAP. Please donate items through the Walk’n Knock on Saturday, February 7 or by bringing and placing them in the donation bins at Fred Meyer or our school. Donations bins will be available February 1-13 at both sites. The items of greatest need include canned beans, corn, peas, meat and peaches. Also needed is peanut butter, applesauce, powdered milk, baby food, soup, tomato sauce, pasta, and oatmeal. Personal items such as diapers, deodorant, toothbrushes and toothpaste are needed. As each high school reaches certain amounts of donations, different incentives will be given to the entire student body.

Also, volunteers are needed for the Walk’n Knock on Saturday, February 7 at 9am. Meet at RA Long Auditorium to participate. Each volunteer will receive either 1 service to school point or 2 hours of community service. Sign up with any teacher or in the Career Center any day from now until February 6. We need approximately 100 volunteers from Mark Morris.  For more information see Mr. Ruhter in room B-8.

Anyone interested in playing baseball should plan on attending a meeting on Monday, February 9th @ 3:00 in the cafeteria.  There will also be a parent meeting that night at 5:30 in the cafeteria.

NOTES FROM THE GUIDANCE OFFICE & CAREER CENTER

A representative from Josten’s Rings will be in the main hall during both lunches on February 10th & 17th.

If you are interested in a career in high-tech, consider attending a SEMI High Tech U in February.  High Tech U is a three-day high-tech career exploration program for high school students.  Students will participate in several hands-on activities that focus on topics including nanotechnology, solar and alternative energy technologies, mathematics, statistics, and problem solving.  For more information, see Mrs. Peters in the Career Center.

COMMUNITY SERVICE OPTIONS:

Mint Valley and CVG Elementary Schools are accepting volunteers to work in their libraries after school.  See Mrs. Peters in the Career Center for more information.
