Reference Materials in the Library:

Our reference section has many literature books and encyclopedias. Give them a try. Subject searches on your topic in WebCollection Plus (the library catalog) will show any reference books by prefix REF before the call number.

Online Searching Tips

Use WWW search strategies that give the best results:

Use "quotations marks" around names with two or more proper nouns:
Search without quotation marks: Paul Janeczko	Search with quotations marks: "Paul Janeczko"
Search with all the words is NOT as good as.....	...searching with exact phrase: "Written on the Wall at Chang's Hermitage"
Use AND when combining two different terms:
teenagers"Paul Janeczko"
poems Paul Janeczko	poems AND "Paul Janeczko"

Reminders about Using the RAL Library:

• Library hours are 7:20 AM - 2:50 PM. If Mrs. Enders stays later, you are welcomed to stay, as long as she does not have to feed you, do your assignment for you, or bring you the telephone. (Quality chocolate may vary those guidelines).
• You do not need to reshelve books. Just put by the circulation computer.
• You can reserve an item, but don't forget it.
• All materials are checked out overnight only, after 6th period.
• All materials are due before 1st period.
• Late overnight materials are fined at 25 cents per hour, starting at 7:51 AM.
• Photocopies are 5 cents each. I like using this option myself. Remember to copy the title page, penciling in the copyright date.
• Printing from computers: use directions in each database to save paper. Ask for help. We like to help.
• If you only need 1 or 2 paragraphs of a multi-paged database article, create a "Notes" document for each source.
• Picture printing costs 25 cents a sheet.
